MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team shot 50 percent (30-60) from the floor on
its way to defeating the Edgewood College Eagles 76-56 on Saturday
at the Recreation Complex to capture the 2008 NAC Tournament
championship.
Emily Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) scored 17 of her
season-high 31 points in the first half on 7-of-9 shooting. With
Edgewood leading 7-2, the Warriors went on a 21-2 run and led by as
many as 17 points in the half. WLC headed into the half with a
43-27 lead.
Wisconsin Lutheran opened up the second half with a 9-2 run and
extended its lead to as much as 32 points (70-38) with 7:44 left.
The Eagles were held to just 30 percent (9-30) shooting in the
half, including 0-7 from three-point range.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished with 21
points and Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages)
added 10 off the bench. Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Breanne
Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) dished out eight assists.
The Warriors, who avenged an earlier loss to Edgewood,
out-rebounded the Eagles 42-33.
Laete's 31 points placed her into third all-time in career
scoring with 1,503 points.
Megan Scheele scored 17 points to pace three Eagles (17-11) in
double figures.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which does not receive an automatic bid to
the NCAA Division III tournament due to the provisional status of
the NAC, finishes its 2007-08 season with an 18-10 overall record
and 14-4 in league play.
