Volleyball opens NAC play with win over Rockford

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team opened up the Northern Athletics Conference portion of its schedule with a 3-1 win over Rockford College on Tuesday night at the Recreation Complex.

Wisconsin Lutheran won the first set 25-21 before Rockford evened the match with a 25-19 victory in the second set. The Warriors won sets three and four by scores of 25-21 and 25-17, respectively.

Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) and Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each had seven kills to lead WLC's offensive attack. Kailey Buenting (Gifford, Ill./Saint Thomas More) finished with a team-high 17 assists, while Jamie Matz (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) added a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs.

Nine of 11 players that saw action in the match had at least one kill for the Warriors, who are already one win shy of last season's win total.

Wisconsin Lutheran (7-5, 1-0 NAC) travels to Fond du Lac, Wis., on Thursday for a NAC match against Marian University at 7 p.m.
