MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Jake Parnau (Milwaukee,
Wis./Greendale) converted on a penalty kick in the 99th minute to
send Wisconsin Lutheran College past Carroll University 2-1 on
Wednesday night in a non-conference clash at Warrior Field.
The Pioneers grabbed an early 1-0 lead after Jake Kuglitsch
found the back of the net at the 12:55 mark of the first half.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which was out-shot 13-4 in the opening half,
trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of Carroll until 3:50 reaming in
regulation when James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./Nathan Hale) tied the
game on an assist from Jacob Mayenschein (Dousman, Wis./Kettle
Moraine). Neither team could find a way to score the rest of
regulation, sending the match into an extra frame.
With one minute left in the first overtime, Edgar Albarran
(Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) was fouled inside of the box and Parnau
proceeded to connect on the penalty kick to give WLC its second
overtime win in as many games.
Sather led the Warriors, who won despite being out-shot 25-14 in
the contest, with four shot attempts in the contest. Matt Eisold
(Burlington, Wis./Burlington) made eight saves in the match for
WLC.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-3) begins Northern Athletics Conference
play on Saturday when it travels to Watertown, Wis., to take on
Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 4 p.m.
