Birschbach's heroics lift Warriors past Crusaders

WATERTOWN, Wis. - Matt Birschbach (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) found the back of the net with 45 seconds left in the second half to send the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Saturday afternoon.

Birschbach, who attempted a game-high four shots in the contest, broke a scoreless tie when he scored the lone goal of the game at the 89:15 mark of the second half.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which was out-shot 6-4 by Maranatha in the first half, finished with 13 shot attempts, compared to nine attempted by the Crusaders.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Eisold (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) made three saves in the game for WLC to earn the shutout victory.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-3, 1-0 NAC) travels across town to face the MSOE Raiders on Monday in a Northern Athletics Conference game at 7 p.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park.
