Maranatha edges Wisconsin Lutheran in five sets

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team was edged in five sets, 3-2, by the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Monday in a Northern Athletics Conference contest.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which won games three and four, were nipped 25-23 in both set one and three. WLC fell behind 8-0 in the fifth set and eventually lost 15-8.

Junior Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) finished with 13 kills to lead the Warriors, while Sam Sturomski and Erika Laete each added 10 kills. Sturomski finished with a .409 hitting percentage.

Freshman Kailey Buenting (Gifford, Ill./Saint Thomas More) dished out 32 assists and senior Jaclyn Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran) finished with 27 digs.

Deborah Giegerich (9-6, 2-0 NAC) finished with 17 kills to pace the Crusaders offensively.

Wisconsin Lutheran (8-7, 1-2 NAC) hosts Aurora University in an NAC match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
