Conference Player of the Year Megan Scheele scored a game-high 28
points to lead the Edgewood College women's basketball team past
Wisconsin Lutheran College 72-66 on Saturday at the Recreation
Complex in a rematch of the 2008 NAC Tournament Championship.
Wisconsin Lutheran found itself in an early hole, trailing by a
game-high 12 points (16-4) at the 13:52 mark of the first half. The
Warriors cut the Eagles lead to six points before heading into
halftime trailing 37-26. WLC shot just 33.3 percent in the opening
half, compared to 54.2 percent shooting for Edgewood.
The Warriors took their first lead of the game with 8:42 left in
the second half when Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) knocked down a pair of free throws for a 53-52 lead. WLC
led by two points, 59-57, with 5:26 remaining before Edgewood used
a 7-0 run and hit some late free throws to come away with the
win.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) poured in a
team-high 16 points to pace Wisconsin Lutheran. Whitney Miller
(Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also reached double
figures with 14 points for the Warriors, who finished the game
shooting 38.6 percent (22-for-57).
The Warriors were plagued with foul trouble for the majority of
the game, but edged the Eagles on the glass, 33-30. Both teams
committed 16 turnovers in the contest.
Ashley Averkamp reached double figures with 14 points for
Edgewood (7-5, 5-1 NAC), which shot 48.9 percent (22-for-45) for
the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-5, 3-1 NAC) looks to snap its brief
two-game losing skid on Tuesday when it travels to Aurora
University for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Spartans.
