AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team shot just 26.9 percent from the floor and
was plagued by 25 turnovers in a 68-56 loss to the Aurora
University Spartans on Tuesday in a Northern Athletics Conference
game at the Thornton Gymnasium.
The Warriors, who trailed by as much as six points (21-15) in
the first half, were able to take a 30-28 lead into halftime
despite shooting just 31.4 percent from the floor. Britany Lindert
(Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages), who scored 14 of her
team-high 18 points in the half, hit a pair of free throws with
less than one second to play in the half to give the Warriors the
lead and put her at exactly 1,000 points for her career.
Wisconsin Lutheran built a five-point lead (40-35) at the 14:50
mark of the second half, but the Spartans countered with a 14-0 run
to lead 49-40 with 9:37 left to play. Lindsay Maas (Watertown,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) ended the run by knocking down a
three-pointer to close the deficit to six points, but that would be
as close as WLC would get the rest of the way. The Warriors shot
just 21.9 percent (7-for-32) in the second half.
Senior guard Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored
15 points and was the only other player to reach double figures for
WLC. Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
finished with a game-high 10 rebounds for the Warriors, who
out-rebounded the Spartans 47-37, holding a 27-11 advantage on the
offensive glass.
Aurora (9-5, 6-2 NAC), which shot 40.4 percent (19-for-47) from
the floor for the game and had four players finish in double
figures, was led by Jessica Mason's game-high 19 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-6, 3-2 NAC) looks to snap its three-game
losing skid on Thursday when it hosts Dominican University at 7
p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
