MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College overcame
25 turnovers and cold second-half shooting to defeat the Milwaukee
School of Engineering Raiders 68-65 in overtime Tuesday night in a
Northern Athletics Conference game at the Kern Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran started the game strong as senior guard
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) scored the
first seven points of the game to give WLC an early lead. The
Warriors extended their first-half lead to 11 points (24-13) with
10:48 left in the half. MSOE answered by going on a 20-7 run to
take its first lead of the half, 33-31, with 2:16 remaining before
the break.
Senior Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
knocked down a three-pointer as time expired to send WLC into the
locker room at halftime in front 39-35. The Warriors shot 55.6
percent from the floor in the half, including 77.8 percent
(7-for-9) from three-point range.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot only 29.6 percent in the second
half, held the lead until 5:11 left in the game when the Raiders
went in front 58-56 after tying the games six times in the half.
After a jumper by Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) tied
the game at 60-60 with 1:38 to play, neither team was able to score
and the game was sent into overtime.
WLC, which went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the extra
period, was able to overcome an early two-point deficit and win for
the fifth time in as many tries. MSOE went just 2-for-6 from the
charity stripe in the extra session.
Dillon scored 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead all
scorers, while Lindert finished with 13 points. Whitney Miller
(Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) grabbed a team-high nine
rebounds.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 43.1 percent
(25-for-58), while the Raiders shot 40.3 percent (25-for-62) from
the floor for the game. MSOE went just 11-for-25 from the
free-throw line in the contest.
Megan Syverson scored a team-high 18 points to lead MSOE (9-8,
6-5 NAC). Carol Cayo tallied a double-double with 16 points and a
game-high 12 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-6, 8-2 NAC) hosts Alverno College on
Thursday in a NAC tilt at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
