SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
saw its six-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday
afternoon, falling to the Lakeland College Muskies 55-52 in a
Northern Athletics Conference game at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran built an early 12-4 lead before Lakeland
answered with a 9-0 run to take a 13-12 lead at the 10:23 mark of
the first half. After four more lead changes, the Muskies held a
slim 24-21 advantage at halftime. The Warriors shot just 32.1
percent in the half, while the Muskies shot 47.8 percent.
Lakeland led for the majority of the second half and extended
its lead to a game-high 10 points (46-36) with 10:17 left in the
game. The Warriors responded with a 13-2 run to take a 49-48 lead
with 2:21 remaining on the clock. Chelsea Coenen hit a
three-pointer to put the Muskies back on top 51-49 on their next
possession. Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 51-51 with
just over a minute to play. Lakeland led 53-52 with 14 seconds left
and the Warriors turned the ball over with a chance to take the
lead with four seconds to play. Lakeland followed with a pair of
free throws to seal the win.
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) tallied
game highs of 18 points and nine rebounds, just shy of her first
career double-double. Miller was the second Warrior to reach double
figures, adding 11 points and nine rebounds.
WLC shot 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the floor for the game,
while the Muskies shot 40.4 percent (21-for-52) for the game. The
Warriors, who out-rebounded the Muskies 38-32, were unable to get
any points from their bench.
KC Blahnik scored a team-high 16 points for Lakeland (14-5, 9-3
NAC). Autumn Gaylor finished with 10 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-7, 9-3 NAC) travels to River Forest,
Ill., on Wednesday for a NAC game against Concordia University
Chicago at 7 p.m.
