Box Score Box score

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Wisconsin Lutheran College scored 19 straight first-quarter points on its way to defeating the Rockford College Regents 40-14 on Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference game at Sam Greeley Field.

Freshman quarterback Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) tossed two of his career-high four touchdown passes in the first quarter as Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 19-0 lead.

Shaw opened the game with a six-yard touchdown to tight end Kinte Collins (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) before finding junior Dominque Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) from 34 yards out with 3:06 left in the opening quarter. Sophomore running back Jesse Muldrow (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) capped the first-quarter scoring with a one-yard touchdown run as the clock expired.

The Warriors extended their lead to 26-0 with just eight seconds left in the second quarter on another touchdown hookup from Shaw to Johnson, this time from 19 yards away. Jeremy Montgomery put Rockford on the scoreboard when he returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown as the first half clock struck zeros. WLC led 26-7 at halftime.

The Regents scored the only points of the third quarter on a Jason Hosey three-yard touchdown run with 8:03 left in the period as RC climbed within 12 points (26-14) entering the fourth quarter.

WLC scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to end all thoughts of a Regents comeback. Senior wide receiver Ryan Adamovich (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) caught an eight-yard touchdown reception with 11:26 remaining and freshman running back Taylor Pelot (Fond du Lac, Wis./Campbellsport) found the end zone for the first time as a Warrior with just 1:05 left on the clock to cap off the scoring.

Shaw finished 17-for-34 for 230 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense. Johnson caught five passes for 83 yards and a pair of scores, while junior running back Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) accumulated 96 of WLC's 112 yards on the ground.

Defensively, junior linebacker Nate Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) recorded a game-high eight tackles. Junior safety Alex Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) had an interception and a fumble recovery for WLC, which forced three turnovers to increase its league-leading turnover margin to +8.

Shem Biebert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) had a solid day on special teams, punting three times for a 43.3 yard average. Two of his punts were downed inside Rockford's 20-yard line.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-3, 2-1 NAC) hosts conference rival Concordia University Wisconsin (3-3, 3-0 NAC) in the second annual Lutheran Bowl and battle for first place in the NAC in a rare Thursday night showdown at 7 p.m. at Raabe Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports 32. WLC is also planning a "White Out" and will be giving out Martin Luther T-shirts and Bobbleheads at a pre-game tailgate party.
