RIVER FOREST, Ill. - After dropping its first
three Northern Athletics Conference matches, the Wisconsin Lutheran
College volleyball team won its seventh straight conference match
on Tuesday evening by defeating the Concordia University Chicago
Cougars, 3-2, at the Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Warriors, who improved to 15-13 overall and 7-3 in the NAC,
prevailed over the host Cougars in five sets by scores of 25-14,
20-25, 25-21, 18-25 and 15-12. With the victory, WLC clinches its
first-ever berth in the eight-team NAC Tournament, which begins
November 3. The Warriors currently sit in fifth place in the
13-team league with just two conference matches left to play.
Sophomores Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
and Alli Page (Muskego, Wis./Luther Preparatory) each recorded nine
kills for WLC. Neuberger also added a match-high 25 digs. Leanna
Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) dished out 27 assists,
also a match-high.
Robyn Brukardt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) contributed
with 19 digs, while senior Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago
Lutheran) tallied 18. Freshman Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran)
contributed with 11 digs.
Sarah Potter and Alex Pinotti each posted double-doubles for
host Concordia Chicago (12-13, 4-5 NAC). Amanda Allen finished with
a match-high 14 kills.
Wisconsin Lutheran wraps up its regular-season home schedule
this Saturday when it hosts a triangular with Concordia Wisconsin
and Ripon at the Recreation Complex. The Warriors battle the
Falcons at 11 a.m., before tangling with the Red Hawks in a 3 p.m.
non-conference match.
