MILWAUKEE - Benedictine University's
Christopher Madro broke a 1-1 tie by scoring the game-winning goal
with just 20 seconds left on the second half clock as the Eagles
handed Wisconsin Lutheran College a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night
in a Northern Athletics Conference game at Warrior Field.
The Warriors (3-7-2, 1-3-1 NAC), who suffered their fifth
one-goal loss of the season, held a 1-0 lead at halftime after Matt
Birschbach (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) found the back of
the net on an assist from freshman Kaleb Buch (Manitowoc,
Wis./Lutheran) with 1:06 left in the first half.
Benedictine tied the score at one apiece at 62:04 on a goal by
Slavko Milicevic. The game remained locked at 1-1 and appeared to
be headed to an extra period, but Madro netted the game-winning
tally with 20 seconds left to send the Eagles (5-7, 1-4 NAC) past
WLC.
Birschbach finished with a team-high five shots for Wisconsin
Lutheran, which outshot BU 18-17. Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Jake Parnau (Milwaukee,
Wis./Greendale) added four shots each. Matt Eisold (Burlington,
Wis./Burlington) made five saves in the contest.
The Warriors look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to
Sheboygan, Wis., for a 3:30 p.m. NAC battle against the Lakeland
College Muskies.
