Eagles' hot-shooting second half too much for Warriors in opener

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Tony Mane scored a game-high 27 points and UW-La Crosse used a 61-percent shooting performance to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran College 92-68 on Monday in the 2009-10 non-conference season opener for both teams at Mitchell Hall.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 11-4 lead over the host Eagles with 16:23 on the first-half clock. UW-La Crosse responded with a 28-12 run to gain a nine-point lead (32-23), a lead that it would never relinquish, with 8:24 left in the opening half. The Warriors, who shot 39.3 percent in the half, trailed just 42-37 at halftime.

Wisconsin Lutheran found itself down by just five points (53-48) with 15:51 left in the second half before La Crosse used a 16-0 scoring run to lead 69-48 at the 11:25 mark. UW-L led by as many as 25 points before the final horn sounded.

WLC, which concluded the night shooting 35.6 percent (21-for-59) from the floor, was paced by Kyle Madson's (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) 18 points. Senior guard Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) added 12 points in the loss. The Warriors committed only seven turnovers, but were out-rebounded by 16 on the defensive end after evening-up the Eagles on the offensive glass, 7-7.

Mane's 27 points paced three other players in double figures for the Eagles (1-0), who shot a sizzling 47.8 percent (11-for-23) from three-point range. Kurt Kincaid grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1) has a week off before hosting the UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Tuesday, November 24. The non-conference game tips off at 7 p.m. at WLC's Recreation Complex.
