STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's basketball team was defeated by the 23rd-ranked
UW-Stevens Point Pointers 93-66 on Tuesday in a non-conference game
at Berg Gym.
The nationally-ranked Pointers jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the
16:26 mark of the first half and held their lead for the entire
contest. The Warriors got themselves within eight points at four
different stages throughout the first half, but it would be the
closest that they would get.
UW-SP, which shot 63.6 percent in the first half compared to
41.2 percent for the Warriors, carried a 52-33 lead into the
halftime break.
Wisconsin Lutheran trailed by 15 points (60-45) with 14:57 left
in the second half before the Pointers went on a 15-3 run to build
their lead up to 27 points, which would end up being their final
margin of victory. Stevens Point maintained its solid performance
by shooting 53.8 percent in the half.
Junior forward Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran)
led all scorers with a career-best 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Senior Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
followed with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman
Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) netted 11 points for
the Warriors, who shot 39.3 percent (24-for-61) from the floor for
the game.
WLC, which was out-rebounded by the Pointers 40-33, was plagued
with 22 turnovers in the game.
Britta Peterson scored 14 points to lead five players in double
figures for UW-Stevens Point (4-0), which shot 59.3 percent
(35-for-59) from the floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-3) begins Northern Athletics Conference
action Wednesday, December 2 when it hosts Alverno College in a 7
p.m. tip-off at the Recreation Complex.
