SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran saw its
2009 volleyball season come to an end on Tuesday evening when it
fell to the Lakeland Muskies 3-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference
Tournament Quarterfinal match at the Moose & Dona Woltzen
Gymnasium.
The tournament's second-seeded Muskies, who are shooting for
three straight conference tournament championships, defeated the
seventh-seeded Warriors in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and
25-23.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which was making its first-ever NAC
Tournament appearance, was paced offensively by senior Megan Sankey
(Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) and sophomore Rachel Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), who accumulated eight kills
each. Johnson finished the match with a .438 hitting
percentage.
Sophomore setter Leanna Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) recorded all but one of WLC's 33 assists on the
night.
Robyn Brukardt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) collected a
team-high 10 digs, while Johnson tallied five total blocks for the
Warriors defensively.
Lakeland (21-12) was led by Brittanie Paulus who registered a
double-double with a match-high 14 kills and 11 digs. Kristine
Raeder added 41 assists and Kaylan Kasper had 12 digs.
The Warriors conclude their 2009 season with an overall record
of 17-17, including a mark of 7-5 in the NAC, under first-year head
coach Diana Balsiger. WLC's mid-season seven-match winning streak
was its longest since the 2004 season.
