MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team remained unbeaten (4-0) in the Northern
Athletics Conference with a 76-57 victory over cross-town rival
MSOE on Thursday night at the Kern Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which never trailed in the game, opened the
contest by scoring the first nine points for a 9-0 lead at the
13:55 mark. The Warriors led by as much as 14 points (37-23) with
1:57 left in the first half before the Raiders closed the half on a
10-0 run. WLC held a 37-33 advantage at the halftime break.
The Warriors began the second half by going on a 15-2 run to
build a 16-point lead (52-36) with 13:39 left to play. The Raiders
would get no closer than 13 points before WLC extended its lead to
a game-high 21 points with just 41 seconds left in the game.
Senior Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the
Warriors. Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) added a
season-high 13 points. Three players, Erika Laete (Spokane,
Wash./Evergreen Lutheran), Brittanny Bahr (Caledonia,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope
School) scored nine points apiece.
Sophomore guard Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) snatched a career-best 12 rebounds for WLC, which owned a
48-37 advantage over the Raiders on the glass. The Warriors shot
41.0 percent (25-for-61) from the floor in the game.
The two teams combined for 51 turnovers and 47 personal fouls.
However, WLC doubled-up MSOE in points off turnovers, 24-12.
Megan Syversen was the only player to reach double figures for
MSOE (5-5, 4-2 NAC), scoring 13 points. Carol Cayo finished with a
team-high 10 rebounds. The Raiders shot just 27.6 percent
(16-for-58) from the floor for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-3, 4-0 NAC) will enjoy its Christmas break
before returning to action December 29 in Boca Raton, Fla., for the
Springhill Suites Classic to face a pair of NCAA Division II
opponents. The Warriors square off against host Lynn University on
December 29 at 3 p.m., followed by a December 30 matchup with Barry
University at 1 p.m.
