MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Whitney Miller
(Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored a career-high 30
points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's basketball team past the Alverno College Inferno
88-85 in double overtime on Wednesday night in the Northern
Athletics Conference opener for both teams at the Recreation
Complex.
The first half saw Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno exchange leads
nine times, before the visiting Inferno, who led by as many as nine
points in the half, carried a 37-31 lead into the halftime
break.
Alverno held its lead for all but one juncture in the second
half and led by a game-high 10 points (44-34) with 15:48 left in
regulation. WLC trailed by six points with just 2:49 to play, but
closed the game on a 7-1 run which was capped by a Shavon Dillon
(Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) game-tying jumper with 26 seconds
left to send the game into the first extra frame.
The Warriors maintained their lead for over the opening four
minutes of the first overtime before the visitors came back to take
a three-point lead (74-71) with just 22 seconds left on the clock.
Attempting to knot the game with a three-point attempt, Miller was
fouled from beyond the arc with three seconds left. She proceeded
to sink all three free throw attempts and send the game into a
second overtime session.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which scored the first basket in the second
overtime, exchanged leads twice with the Inferno before building a
four-point lead that it would never relinquish.
Junior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) tallied a
double-double with career highs of 21 points and 16 rebounds to go
along with Miller's double-double. Dillon contributed 16 points off
the bench, and freshman guard Krissy Day (West Allis,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 11 points. Sophomore Rachel Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also posted 10 rebounds.
WLC out-rebounded Alverno 66-48, which included a 26-11
advantage in second-chance points. The Warriors finished the game
shooting 33.3 percent (30-for-90) from the floor and just 53.7
percent (22-for-41) from the charity stripe.
Gabby Allen scored 21 points to pace four players in double
figures for the Inferno (2-3, 0-1 NAC), which shot 43.7 percent
(31-for-71) from the floor for the game. Rachel Diedrich finished
with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Kelsey Kochanowski and
Shataya McComb each added 12 points.

Saturday, December 12 when it plays host to Rockford College in a 5
