MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Sam Siemers
(Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) scored a career-high 35
points to send the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team
to an 86-63 win over rival Concordia University Wisconsin on
Saturday night in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the
Recreation Complex.
The Warriors and Falcons played through five ties and five lead
changes until 6:15 left on the first-half clock when Siemers
drained one of his seven three-point field goals for a 26-23
advantage, a lead WLC would never relinquish the rest of the way.
Wisconsin Lutheran closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take a
42-30 lead at halftime.
Siemers scored 24 of his points in the opening half while
shooting 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. WLC shot 45.2 percent from
the floor in the half, including 50 percent from three-point
range.
The Warriors held at least a 10-point lead throughout the entire
second half of action. The hosts used a 12-2 run to extend their
lead to a game-high 29 points (84-55) with 2:56 left to play.
Siemers finished the game shooting 12-for-16 from the floor and
7-for-8 from downtown for his career-high 35 points. Senior Kyle
Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) poured in 20 points, while
senior Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
added 12 points, all in the second half. Sophomore Alex Merbach
(Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) grabbed a game-high nine
rebounds for the Warriors, who out-rebounded CUW 44-38.
The Warriors, who shot 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the field
for the game, finished with just nine turnovers.
Cory Stark scored 12 points and was the only player to reach
double figures for the Falcons (5-4, 2-1 NAC), who shot 32.3
percent (20-for-62) from the floor for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-5, 2-0 NAC) hosts non-conference opponent
Silver Lake College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning to
conference play next Saturday by hosting Rockford College at 7:15
p.m.
