MILWAUKEE - The WLC women's basketball
team shot 55.3 percent and scored 56 points in the first half en
route to collecting a 78-56 victory over the Benedictine Eagles on
Saturday in a Northern Athletics Conference South Division contest
at the Recreation Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran and Benedictine exchanged leads twice within
the first four minutes of the game before the Warriors took a 13-10
lead, a lead that they would never relinquish, at the 15:10 mark.
The hosts used a 21-6 run to lead by a first-half high 26 points
(54-28) with 1:57 left before halftime. WLC led by 23 points,
56-33, at the break.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored 22 of her
game-high 24 points in the half for the Warriors, who outscored the
Eagles 19-2 in points off turnovers in the opening period.
WLC extended its lead to a game-high 28 points (65-37) at the
12:07 mark of the second half. The Warriors saw their lead never
dip below 17 points the rest of the game. Despite scoring only 22
points in the second half, the Warriors held the Eagles to just
21.2 percent shooting in the half.
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) and
Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 13
and 11 points, respectively, to join Dillon in double figures for
the Warriors. Sophomore Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen
Lutheran) finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which has won 10 of its last 11 games,
finished the game shooting 45.6 percent (31-for-68). BU was held to
just 29.9 percent (20-for-67) shooting for the game.
Tracey Walsh scored a team-high 14 points to pace Benedictine
(10-13, 7-10 NAC). Jenn Bren added 12 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (15-7, 13-3 NAC) plays its final home game of
the regular season on Monday when it hosts Concordia Chicago in a
NAC game at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. The game was
originally scheduled to be played on December 16, but was postponed
due to weather.
