RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
women's basketball team captured its 12th win in 13 chances by
defeating the Dominican University Stars 75-56 on Wednesday in the
Northern Athletics Conference regular-season finale for both teams
at the Igini Sports Forum.
Wisconsin Lutheran and Dominican went back and forth for the
first 4:30 of the first half, exchanging leads twice each. The
Warriors used an 8-0 run to build a 35-27 lead with 3:29 left in
the half. WLC maintained its eight-point lead, 39-31, at halftime.
The Warriors shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening period
and owned an 8-0 advantage over the Stars in points off the
bench.
WLC, which held at least a 10-point lead for the final 12:54 of
the second half, extended its lead to a game-high 22 points with
3:47 left in the game. After being out-rebounded by nine in the
first half, the Warriors dominated the glass in the second half,
28-12. Sophomore forward Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen
Lutheran), who played just one minute in the first half due to foul
trouble, scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the second
half.
Freshman Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
finished with a career-high 17 points and seven assists. Senior
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) also added 17. Junior
Chelsie Bylsma (Cambria, Wis./Cambria-Friesland) added nine points
and seven rebounds off the bench.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game shooting 41.7 percent
(30-for-72) from the floor, while Dominican shot 37.1 percent
(23-for-62) for the game. WLC out-rebounded the Stars 43-36.
Lindsey Trent scored a game-high 19 points to pace three players
in double figures for Dominican (11-13, 6-12 NAC). Jessica Salinas
recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (17-7, 15-3 NAC) hosts Concordia University
Wisconsin in a NAC Challenge game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the
Recreation Complex. The Warriors handed the Falcons their only
conference loss of the season 75-67 on January 17 in Mequon,
Wis.
