MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team overcame 29 turnovers to defeat the
Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 69-62 on Saturday in a
Northern Athletics Conference Challenge game at the Recreation
Complex. With the victory, the Warriors secure the top seed in the
eight-team NAC Tournament.
Wisconsin Lutheran led 13-7 with 14:24 left in the first half
before going on an eight-minute scoring drought. Concordia
Wisconsin went on a 15-0 run during that time span to lead 22-13
with 7:54 remaining in the half. The Warriors trailed by a
game-high 10 points (25-15) at the 5:05 mark and went into the
locker room down by just two points, 31-29, at halftime. WLC turned
the ball over 18 times in the half, which led to 19 points by the
Falcons.
CUW, which led by as many as eight points in the second half,
held the lead for almost the first 13 minutes of the half. The
Warriors took their first lead of the half, 50-48, on a lay-up by
senior Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) with
7:11 left in the game. WLC never trailed from that point on,
building as much as an eight-point lead with just over three
minutes remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 55.6 percent in the half
and held the Falcons to just 29.6 percent shooting.
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) led the
Warriors with 18 points. Kristen Dillon (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) finished with 17 points, 14 of which came in the
second half. Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) added 13 points.
WLC, which won its seventh straight game, shot 49 percent
(24-for-49) from the floor for the game. CUW was held to just 32.8
percent (19-for-58) shooting.
Krista Mayyou scored a game-high 23 points to lead Concordia
Wisconsin (19-5), which is the second seed in the NAC Tournament.
Erin Meier added 12 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (18-7, 15-3 NAC) hosts eighth-seeded Rockford
College on Tuesday in a NAC Tournament quarterfinal game at 7 p.m.
at the Recreation Complex. The Warriors defeated the Regents 95-64
on December 13 in Rockford, Ill., in their lone meeting of the
season.
