Warriors stymie Spartans to advance to NAC Tournament title game

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team won its school-record ninth straight game by defeating the Aurora University Spartans 67-53 on Thursday in a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament Semifinal at the Recreation Complex.

Wisconsin Lutheran (20-7), the top seed in the NAC Tournament, will host second-seeded Concordia Wisconsin (21-5) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Recreation Complex for the NAC Tournament Championship. The winner will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Warriors won both of their matchups with the Falcons this season. The Falcons defeated Edgewood College 72-66 in the other semifinal game on Thursday.

The Warriors, who never trailed in the game, got out to an early 6-0 lead at the 18:13 mark of the first half. WLC held at least a 10-point lead for the final 8:30 of the half before carrying a 14-point lead (35-21) into halftime.

WLC shot 52.2 percent from the floor in the second half and maintained at least a double-digit lead for the first 8:08 of the half. Aurora trimmed its deficit down to nine points, 44-35, with 11:37 left to play before the Warriors built their lead back up to a game-high 20 points (65-45) with 1:43 left on the clock before coasting to the victory.

Senior Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored a team-high 14 points to lead three other players in double figures for the Warriors. Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) and Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) each added 13 points. Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game shooting 46.4 percent (26-for-56) from the floor. The Spartans shot 41.1 percent (23-for-56) from the floor for the game.

Ashley Daniels scored a game-high 21 points to lead two other players in double figures for the Spartans (17-10).
