MILWAUKEE - The top-seeded WLC women's basketball team was defeated by second-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin 69-65 in overtime in front of a raucous crowd on Saturday in the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Championship at the Recreation Complex.

The Falcons went back up by three points, 30-27, before freshman Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) knocked down a three-pointer as the first half clock expired to tie the game at halftime.

WLC opened the second half on an 11-4 run to grab a 41-34 lead at the 16:48 mark. The Falcons went back in front by two points, 46-44, with 10:45 remaining in regulation. WLC came back on the attack and took a 52-48 lead with 7:16 left. CUW tied the game three times before the Warriors had two chances to win the game within the final 10 seconds but were unable to convert and the game was sent to an extra period.

The Falcons, who went 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in overtime, scored the first six points of the extra session and never trailed. The Warriors cut their deficit down to one point, 64-63, with 1:02 to play, but CUW converted on five of its final seven free throws to deny WLC a season sweep of the visitors from Mequon.

Senior Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished her career with a game-high 25 points for Wisconsin Lutheran. Fellow senior guard Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) was the only other Warrior to reach double figures with 15 points. Sophomore Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for WLC, which out-rebounded the Falcons 54-44.

WLC finished the game shooting 29.9 percent (23-for-77) from the floor, compared to 36.4 percent (24-for-66) for Concordia Wisconsin.

Melanie Kulibert scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the Falcons (22-5), who will find out their NCAA Division III Tournament opponent when the tournament field is announced Monday morning.

Wisconsin Lutheran finishes its 2008-09 season 20-8 overall and 15-3 in the NAC South. The 20 wins tie a school record for most wins in a single season. The Warriors also tied a school record by winning nine straight games, which was last set during the 1997-98 season.
