Warriors top Sabres to earn sixth-straight win

MILWAUKEE - Senior Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored 27 points to lead four players in double figures as Wisconsin Lutheran defeated Marian 84-71 on Saturday at the Recreation Complex to extend its winning streak to six games.

WLC, which shot 55.6 percent from the floor and made nine three-point field goals in the first half, grabbed a 9-7 lead at the 15:43 mark of the half and never trailed the rest of the way. The Warriors extended their lead to a half-high 18 points, 44-26, as the half came to a close. Plath finished with 18 first-half points on six three-pointers.

The Warriors, who continued their hot shooting in the second half by shooting 54.2 percent from the field, led by a game-high 19 points (71-52) with 7:51 remaining in the game. Marian responded with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 10 points with 5:07 left. WLC never saw its lead slip below nine points the rest of the game.

Plath, who has scored at least 24 points in five straight games, finished with 27 points. Senior guard Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) contributed with 18 points. Juniors Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and Jeremy Burmeister (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Siemers, who scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, and Behm each finished tied with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Warriors shot 54.9 percent (28-for-51) from the floor for the game, while the Sabres shot 46.7 percent (28-for-60). WLC made 14 three-pointers for the fourth time this season.

Logan Rankin scored a game-high 31 points to lead Marian (7-14, 4-9 NAC). Wayne Franklin added 15 points.

Wisconsin Lutheran (13-8, 9-4 NAC) hosts the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. WLC fell at MSOE 88-76 on January 20 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
