BELOIT, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team opened its 2009 season on Tuesday by playing to a
1-1 double overtime tie at Beloit College in a non-conference
game.
Wisconsin Lutheran and Beloit held each other scoreless through
the first 41 minutes of the first half before junior Jake Parnau
(Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale) put the Warriors up 1-0 after
converting on a penalty kick. WLC maintained its 1-0 lead until
halftime.
The Buccaneers managed to tie the contest at the 52:42 mark of
the second half when Jackson Wilkins netted an unassisted goal. The
game stayed tied 1-1 through regulation as well as a pair of
10-minute extra periods.
Senior Matt Eisold (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) stopped eight
shots in goal for the Warriors, who were out-shot 24-10 in the
match. Sophomore James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Hale)
paced WLC with three shot attempts.
Bo Wilkins tallied eight shots, including four on goal for
Beloit (0-0-1). Goalkeeper Nathan Lipps made three saves.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-0-1) makes its home debut on Friday at 7
p.m. by hosting Bethany Lutheran College as part of the two-day
Warrior Cup at Warrior Field.
