MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team took the two-time defending Northern Athletics Conference champion Lakeland College Muskies to a decisive fifth set, but could not pull off the upset, falling 3-2 on Thursday evening at the Recreation Complex.

After dropping the first two sets 25-17 and 25-21, the Warriors rallied by winning the next two sets 25-21 and 25-20, forcing the Muskies into a fifth set. In the end, Lakeland (8-2, 2-0 NAC), which was picked to win its third straight conference title, proved to be too much as it took the final set by a score of 15-5. Lakeland's Brittanie Paulus led all players with 21 kills, while Tonia Strebelinski amassed 28 digs to lead the visitors.

The Warriors were led by junior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) who recorded 12 kills. Senior Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) led four players in double-digit digs with 23, while sophomore setter Leanna Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) served up 29 assists for WLC.

Wisconsin Lutheran (7-7, 0-2 NAC) resumes play Wednesday, September 23 when it travels to Lisle, Ill., for a NAC match against the Eagles of Benedictine University.
