NEW BERLIN, Wis. - WLC's women's tennis team
defeated the Alverno College Inferno 6-3 on Saturday in a Northern
Athletics Conference match on Parents' and Alumni Day at the
Princeton Club.
Wisconsin Lutheran took five of six singles flights and a
doubles match to take the NAC dual 6-3 from the visiting Inferno,
who are in their first season of women's tennis competition.
Freshman Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) defeated Amanda
Almquist 6-0, 6-1 to pick up a win at No. 1 singles. Senior Hannah
Tullberg (Milwaukee, Wis./Luther Preparatory) followed at No. 2
singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Andrea Derrick.
In No. 4 singles action, Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) defeated Katie Craze 6-2, 6-4. Svetlana
Bornschlegl (Rochester, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and Terri Glasel
(Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) each recorded a win at No. 5
and No. 6 singles, respectively, for the Warriors.
Tullberg and Emily Georgson (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) notched Wisconsin Lutheran's only doubles victory with a
8-6 decision over Almquist and Derrick.
The Warriors (3-6, 3-3 NAC) take on Lake Forest College on
Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a non-conference dual match at the
Princeton Club.
