FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University improved
to 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference with an 8-1 victory
over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on Wednesday in a
conference dual match at Buttermilk Creek Park.
The Warriors (4-8, 3-4 NAC) picked up their only victory of the
afternoon at No. 1 doubles where freshman Kathryn Hendee (Rockton,
Ill./Hononegah) and senior Hannah Tullberg (Milwaukee, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) partnered to defeat Michelle Zwicky and Jamie Raquet,
9-8.
In singles action, Zwicky topped Hendee 7-6 (2-0), 6-3 at No. 1.
Tullberg fell 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 to Raquet at No. 2. Rebecca Heczko
defeated freshman Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 4, Emily Bates downed sophomore Erin
Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), 6-1, 6-1. Reilly
Connaher was victorious over sophomore Svetlana Bornschlegl
(Rochester, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran), 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore
Elizabeth Kock (Rochester, Minn./Century) concluded singles play at
No. 6 by falling 6-1, 6-0 to Melanie Seitz.
Doubles play saw Connaher and Heczko top Glasel and junior Emily
Georgson (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), 8-2 at No. 2.
Mathiak and Bornschlegl were upended at No. 3 by Seitz and Bates,
8-3.
WLC hosts Benedictine and Aurora on Saturday at the Princeton
Club in its final home dual matches of the season. The Warriors
battle the Eagles at 9 a.m. before taking on the Spartans at 1
p.m.
