MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team suffered its sixth straight defeat on Sunday
afternoon by falling to the Ripon College Red Hawks 3-1 in a
non-conference bout at Warrior Field.
Both teams presented a few great scoring opportunities early on
in the match, but it was the Red Hawks who struck first. After the
Warriors committed a foul in the 21st minute just outside the box,
Ripon's Kyle Seemeyer found the back of the net off a free kick for
a 1-0 lead. Ripon maintained its 1-0 lead until halftime after
holding a slim first-half shot advantage, 9-6.
The Warriors evened the score at 1-1 when freshman forward
Florin Maduta (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) slipped the ball past Red
Hawks keeper Ryan Crane at the 52:56 mark of the second half. Ripon
regained the lead moments later when Nick Zupan drained a cross
from Joe Drexler past Warriors keeper Matt Eisold (Burlington,
Wis./Burlington). A Red Hawk insurance goal in the 73rd minute
would seal the game.
Senior Ryan Powalisz (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage Christian)
finished with three shots to pace WLC. Eisold made six saves in a
solid effort.
Seemeyer led the Red Hawks (3-5-1) with six shots and a goal,
while Joe Drexler also had two assists for Ripon, which outshot the
Warriors 25-12.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-6-1, 0-2 NAC) searches for its next win on
Tuesday when it hosts Rockford College in a 7 p.m. NAC showdown at
Warrior Field.
