MILWAUKEE - Sophomore James Sather (Milwaukee,
Wis./West Allis Hale) scored two goals and assisted on two others
to help send the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team to a
5-1 win over Rockford Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics
Conference game at Warrior Field.
Sather, who tied for a team-high five shots with Matt Birschbach
(Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), assisted on two first-half
goals and scored two of his own in the second half to propel the
Warriors to victory.
Junior Cameron Teske (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) put WLC up
1-0 at the 10:16 mark when he found the back of the net off a
Sather pass. Sather connected with Birschbach for the Warriors'
second goal at 22:19. Wisconsin Lutheran took its 2-0 lead into the
locker room at the half.
Sather netted WLC's first two goals of the second half on
assists from Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
and Ryan Powalisz (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage Christian),
respectively, for a 4-0 lead. The hosts went up 5-0 in the 69th
minute when Florin Maduta (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) found the net
off a long punt from senior goalkeeper Alex Vogel (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran).
The Warriors, who got at least two shots from seven different
players, finished with 21 shots in the contest.
WLC goalkeepers Matt Eisold (Burlington, Wis./Burlington),
Vogel, Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Crete) and Tony Bink (Menomonee
Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) combined to allow one goal while
facing 19 Regents shots.
Rockford (1-6, 1-3), which got six shots from Sam Medina-Conchi,
received its lone goal from Eric Boozell in the 73rd minute.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-6-1, 1-2 NAC) travels to Fond du Lac,
Wis., on Saturday for a 12 p.m. NAC showdown with the Marian
University Sabres. The game is the first of a doubleheader with the
women's team.
