MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team was defeated by the Maranatha Baptist Bible
College Crusaders 2-1 on Tuesday in the Northern Athletics
Conference opener for both clubs at Warrior Field. It was WLC's
first loss of the young season.
The visiting Crusaders struck first at the 19:34 mark of the
first half when Timothy Solarek found the back of the net off an
assist from Alex Board. The score stood 1-0 in favor of Maranatha
until the end of the first half.
After being outshot 6-5 in the opening frame, the Warriors
turned up the offensive attack in the second period by outshooting
the Crusaders 13-8. Senior Ryan Powalisz (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage
Christian), who paced the Warriors with a game-high five shots,
tied the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute when he scored unassisted.
The contest remained tied for the next 19 minutes before MBBC's
Kevin Vigneault put the visitors in front for good at 77:38.
Senior Matt Eisold (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) made seven
saves while allowing a pair of goals for the Warriors.
Brett Hollenback finished with four shots to pace Maranatha
(1-0, 1-0 NAC), which was playing its first game of the
season.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-1-1, 0-1 NAC) concludes its four-game
homestand on Saturday by hosting Viterbo University in
non-conference action at 3 p.m. at Warrior Field.
