HOWARDS GROVE, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2009
season on Wednesday by defeating the Lakeland Muskies 7-2 in a
Northern Athletics Conference match at Howards Grove High
School.
The Warriors came out victorious in five of the six singles
flights. Hannah Tullberg (Milwaukee, Wis./Luther Preparatory
School), Izumi Sawada (Okayama City, Japan/St. Croix Lutheran),
Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), Svetlana
Bornschlegl (Rochester, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and Elizabeth
Kock (Rochester, Minn./Century) each picked up victories at No. 2
through No. 6 singles, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran also came out on top in two of the three
doubles flights. Emily Georgson (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) teamed with Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) to defeat the Lakeland doubles team of Felton and
Shutterhelm, 9-7. While Sawada and Mathiak took down the Muskies
duo of Hubbard and Gardner, 8-2.
WLC (1-5, 1-2 NAC) resumes play Saturday, September 12 when it
plays hosts to NAC opponents Rockford College and Edgewood College
at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, at the Princeton Club.
