MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team split a pair of matches on its first day of
competition at the Rhodes College Fall Break Classic Saturday
afternoon at the Bryan Campus Life Center.
The Warriors dropped their opening match of the weekend Saturday
afternoon to Loras College, 3-0, by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and
25-18. It was only WLC's fourth 3-0 defeat in 23 matches so far
this year.
Junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led
Wisconsin Lutheran with a team-high 13 kills. Freshman Mariah
Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) passed out 15 of the team's
28 assists. Freshmen Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) and Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
collected 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Katie Russell's double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs guided the
Duhawks (21-7). Julie Rogers was credited with 34 assists.
The Warriors rebounded from their earlier loss of the day by
sweeping host Rhodes College, 3-0. WLC matched its win total from a
season ago by defeating the Lynx by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and
25-22.
Johnson again paced Wisconsin Lutheran with 12 kills, while
sophomore Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) added nine.
Bukiewicz and junior Leanna Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) contributed with 19 and 16 assists, respectively. Miller
also collected 12 digs for a double-double. Ridgeman and Neuberger
also reached double digits in digs with 23 and 11 each.
Claire Warren led the Lynx (10-15) with seven kills and three
service aces, while Stephanie Renner topped all blockers with
three.
Wisconsin Lutheran (17-7) rounds out its weekend at the Rhodes
Fall Break Classic Sunday afternoon with a 10 a.m. match against
Greensboro College (20-6), before battling Bethel University
(Tenn.) (15-9) at 12 p.m.
