MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College punched
its ticket to the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference Volleyball
Tournament after defeating Concordia University Chicago 3-1 Tuesday
night for its seventh-straight conference victory at the Recreation
Complex.
The Warriors (18-9, 8-2 NAC) overcame slow starts in each of its
first two sets to claim a four-set win over the visiting Cougars
(9-14, 3-6 NAC). WLC won the match by scores of 28-26, 25-21, 17-25
and 25-14.
Juniors Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Alli Page (Oconomowoc, Wis./Luther Preparatory) paced WLC's
offensive attack with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Freshman
Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and junior Leanna
Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) had 18 and 17 assists
each. Defensively, freshman Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and junior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished with 14 and 12 digs apiece.
With her 12 digs, Neuberger surpassed 1,000 for her career and
became the ninth player since 2000 to achieve the milestone.
WLC conquered the Cougars despite hitting just .103 for the
match and committing 13 service errors.
Sarah Potter posted a match-high 12 kills to lead Concordia
Chicago. Deb Robaczewski passed out 16 assists and Maryl Pinotti
collected 13 digs for the Cougars.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to action Saturday afternoon when if
faces NAC foe Concordia University Wisconsin (18-6, 8-1 NAC) in
Mequon, Wis. The match against the first-place Falcons is set for 1
p.m. at the R. John Buuck Field House.
