Box Score Box score

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College defense allowed just 68 total yards of offense on its way to shutting out Rockford College 19-0 on Homecoming 2010 Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.

The Rockford offense had no chance against a WLC defense that has allowed fewer than 10 points in three of its last four games. Wisconsin Lutheran recorded six sacks, including three by senior Kaylan Gaines (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage).

The Warriors jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Sophomore Philip Chaltis (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) nailed one of his two field goals, the first from 42 yards away, on WLC's second drive of the game. On the Regents' following drive, senior Tom Bodnar (Racine, Wis./Park) intercepted a David Savayong pass to give the Warriors possession on the Rockford 26-yard line. Two plays later, sophomore Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) hit sophomore Josh Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The Warriors led at halftime 13-0.

Wisconsin Lutheran's defense capped the scoring on Rockford's first drive of the second half. Sophomore Jason Kramer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) intercepted Savayong's pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown. The Warriors allowed just two first downs for the rest of the game on their way to their third conference victory.

Shaw was 11-for-26 for 152 yards and a touchdown. Stodola led the receiving corps with three catches for 51 yards and a score. Senior Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) rushed for 50 yards on 17 carries. Senior Shem Biebert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) punted seven times for an average of 36 yards per punt. He pinned RC inside its 20-yard line twice and his longest punt flew for 55 yards.

Senior Josh McCormick (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) led the defense with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. Senior Shaun Stannard (Merton, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) recorded eight tackles, seven of them solo.

Savayong was 3-10 for 13 yards with two interceptions for Rockford (0-7, 0-4 NAC). Jason Hosey gained 57 yards on 26 carries. Josh Ross led Rockford's defense with nine tackles.

Wisconsin Lutheran (5-2, 3-1 NAC) travels north to Mequon, Wis., Saturday, October 30 to face NAC foe Concordia University Wisconsin (2-5, 2-2 NAC) in the annual Lutheran Bowl. The battle for the Luther Cup kicks-off at 1 p.m. at Century Stadium.
