MILWAUKEE - The Dominican University Stars
spoiled Senior Night Wednesday at the Recreation Complex by
sweeping Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-0 in its final Northern
Athletics Conference match of the season.
The Warriors (18-11, 8-4 NAC), who have lost consecutive matches
for just the third time this season, will be seeded fifth in the
eight-team NAC Tournament, which begins next Tuesday, November 2.
WLC will travel to face fourth-seeded Benedictine University (20-7,
9-3 NAC) in Lisle, Ill., at 7 p.m. The Eagles defeated the Warriors
3-0 in their only meeting of the season back on September 22 at the
Recreation Complex.
Dominican (21-7, 10-2 NAC), who will be seeded second in the
upcoming NAC Tournament, won the match in three sets by scores of
25-14, 25-15 and 25-21 to hand WLC just its fifth three-set defeat
of the season.
Senior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran), who
along with senior Kaitlyn Wiese (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) were
honored prior to the match, led the team with seven kills. Junior
Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), sophomore Steph
Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) and freshman Erin Greenfield
(Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added six kills apiece.
Freshman Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and junior
Leanna Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) passed out 16 and
11 assists, respectively. Freshman Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Neuberger totaled 21 and 10 digs
each.
WLC hit just .056 for the match as the Stars tallied 13 total
blocks (3 solo, 20 assist) on the night.
Claire Dezelski finished with nine kills to lead DU. Jessica
Guerrieri added 29 assists and Liz Yakey collected a team-best 16
digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its regular season Saturday with a
pair of non-conference matches at the UW-La Crosse Triangular. The
Warriors will face Wartburg College at 12 p.m., before battling the
host Eagles at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at UW-L's
Mitchell Hall.
