LISLE, Ill. - Benedictine University scored the
game-winning goal of a 2-0 shutout victory in the fifth minute to
hand Wisconsin Lutheran College its second straight Northern
Athletics Conference defeat Wednesday evening at the Village of
Lisle-Benedictine Sports Complex.
Robert Withington opened the scoring for the Eagles off of an
assist from Frank Aguilera at 4:40. The Warriors held their ground
and went into the half trailing 1-0. BU out-shot WLC 11-1 in the
first half.
The Eagles added to their 1-0 lead in the 61st minute when Jesse
Ortiz found the back of the net off of a pass from Alberto Mendez
as Benedictine attempted seven shots, compared to one for the
Warriors.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran)
made seven saves for the Warriors, while freshman Andre Kaul (West
Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) and junior Brett Maxwell (Hobart, Wis./Fox
Valley Lutheran) led the offensive attack with a shot apiece.
Jim Hanley made one save for Eagles (6-5-1, 2-2-1 NAC) and
earned the shutout victory, while Ortiz led the team with four
shots of their 18 shots attempts.
The Warriors (3-10-1, 2-3 NAC) continue NAC action Saturday
afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they face Lakeland College (0-7-5,
0-1-4 NAC) at Warrior Field.
