MILWAUKEE - The Benedictine University Eagles capped off their perfect season in the Northern Athletics Conference by defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 35-14 on a cold and rainy Parents' Day and Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.

After a combined five first-quarter possessions, the Warriors and Eagles played through a scoreless opening quarter of action. Benedictine bolted to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter after quarterback Preston Earl tossed touchdowns of 25 and 35 yards to Mike Trombetta and Brandin Austin, respectively. Wisconsin Lutheran pulled within a touchdown right before halftime when Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) hooked up with Matt Lopata (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy) for a 14-yard touchdown. The score stood 14-7 in favor of the Eagles at the half.

On BU's second possession of the third quarter, Earl connected with Austin from 23 yards away for the second of their three hook-ups for a 21-7 advantage. However, the Warriors answered on their next possession when Kinte Collins (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) hauled in a 15-yard Shaw pass for the final score of the third period with 7:26 on the clock. WLC threatened with a drive later in the quarter, but it stalled on downs at BU's 31-yard line.

Austin scored his third and final touchdown of the game, a 67-yard reception on the second play of the fourth quarter, to lift the Eagles to a 28-14 lead. BU notched its final touchdown with just over four minutes remaining on a John Borsellino six-yard run.

Senior Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) carried 12 times for 53 yards as WLC rushed for 106 yards as a team. Shaw finished 10-for-29 with 93 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Josh Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) caught a pair of passes for 29 yards to lead the receivers.

Defensively, four Warriors led the charge in their final game for the forest green and white. Josh McCormick (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran), Nate Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), Shem Biebert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and Shaun Stannard (Merton, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) totaled 13, 12, 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. McCormick had a 45-yard interception return and one-and-a-half sacks, while Biebert also added one-and-a-half sacks and a fumble recovery.

Wisconsin Lutheran wraps up 2010 with its first winning season. The Warriors finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 for fourth place in the NAC.
