LISLE, Ill. - Fifth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran
College was dealt an early exit from the Northern Athletics
Conference Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night, falling to
fourth-seeded Benedictine University 3-1 in a quarterfinal match at
the Rice Center.
The Warriors, who held a five-point lead in two of their three
set defeats, fell to the Eagles by match scores of 25-21, 24-26,
25-22 and 25-11. WLC built a 14-9 lead in the opening set as well
as an 18-13 set three advantage before BU rallied to win each of
the sets.
Senior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) posted a
team-high 11 kills in her final career match for the forest green
and white. Junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) wasn't far behind with 10 kills. Freshman Mariah
Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and junior Leanna Miller
(Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) chipped in with 18 and 13
assists, respectively, to guide the offensive attack for the
Warriors. WLC was plagued with 29 attack errors and hit just .049
for the match.
Defensively, freshman Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) and junior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) added 15 and 14 digs each.
Benedictine (23-9) was paced by Kayla Leyden's double-double of
24 kills and 20 digs, both match highs. Kara Zuro contributed with
26 assists. The Eagles will host eighth-seeded Maranatha Baptist
Bible College on Thursday in a semifinal match. The Crusaders upset
top-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin 3-1 in another
quarterfinal match on Tuesday night.
Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its 2010 season with an overall
record of 19-13 and 8-4 in the NAC.
