ROCKFORD, Ill. - A late surge was needed by
Wisconsin Lutheran College to extend its undefeated season against
Rockford College 52-43 on Saturday afternoon at the Seaver
Center.
The Warriors took a quick lead in the game 7-0 but it was the
only lead they would have until late in the second half. The
Regents took went in front midway through the first half and
carried a six-point lead, 34-28, going into halftime. The Warriors
shot a dismal 19 percent from the floor in the first half, while
Rockford shot 35 percent.
WLC kept the game close, never trailing by more than five points
in the second half. With seven minutes to go in the game, the
Warriors took the lead and never relinquished it, eventually
winning by nine, 52-43. WLC improved in the second half shooting at
36 percent while Rockford shot 25 percent. Both teams struggled
with turnovers as WLC and Rockford had 21 and 29 turnovers in the
game, respectively.
The Warriors had a balanced scoring attack and were led by
Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). She finished
with a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Brittanny
Bahr (Caledonia, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) was the only other
Warrior to reach double digits in the scoring column with 10.
Senior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) added 9
points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee,
Wis./Hope School) finished with 8 points.
The Regents' (3-6, 2-3 NAC) Britney Curry had a game-high 17
points in leading the offensive attack. Megan Lawler finished with
a team-high eight rebounds.
The Warriors (6-0, 3-0 NAC) will look to remain perfect next
Friday, December 17 as they face off against Millikin University in
the Harriett Crannell Holiday Classic at 7:30 p.m.
