DECATUR, Ill. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
bounced back from its first loss of the season Friday night by
defeating Blackburn College 76-55 in the Harriett Crannell Holiday
Classic hosted by Millikin University Saturday afternoon at the
Griswold Center.
The Warriors, who never trailed in the game, scored the first
points and built their lead up to as many as 21 points in the first
half. They ended the half holding a 19-point lead, 46-27. Junior
Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the Warriors
in the first half with 14 points as the team shot 50 percent from
the floor. The Beavers shot 40 percent but attempted 20 fewer shots
than the Warriors, 40-20.
WLC started the second half just like it finished the first. The
Warriors continued to increase their lead, seeing it climb to 35
points midway through the half en route to coasting to a 76-55
victory. The Warriors out-shot the Beavers in the second half as
well. WLC shot 41 percent while BC shot 37 percent from the
floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-1, 3-0 NAC) had three players in double
figures. Neuberger and fellow junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each scored 16 points. Sophomore Brittanny
Bahr (Caledonia, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) also scored 12 points for
the Warriors, As a team, WLC had twice as many assists, 18-9, as BC
and eight fewer turovers, 13-21.
Andrea Kleinsorge and Ali Taheers led Blackburn (1-8) by scoring
11 and 10 points, respectively. The Beavers were also out-rebounded
by the Warriors, 40-32.
The Warriors will return to action on Monday as they face-off
against NAC opponent Marian University at the Recreation Complex.
The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. It is the last game for
WLC until a non-conference matchup against Mount Mary College after
the New Year, January 6 at 7 p.m. also at the REX.
