Knueppel collected his 100th career coaching victory Monday night
as Wisconsin Lutheran College routed the Marian University Sabres
82-47 in Northern Athletics Conference women's basketball action at
the Recreation Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran surged to a 38-20 advantage in the first
half, shooting 42.9 percent (12-for-28), while holding Marian to
just 25.9 percent (7-for-27). Marian started the game 4-for-6 from
beyond the arc, but finished the half 1-for-11. The Sabres did not
make a field goal in the last 7:30 of the half or score in the
final five minutes. Clinging to a three-point lead at 19-16, the
Warriors closed the half on a 19-4 run.
Wisconsin Lutheran committed only three turnovers in the first
half opposed to seven for Marian, and scored 11 points off
turnovers to none for the Sabers. The Warriors shot and made 10
more free throws than the Sabers, shooting 91.7 percent (11-for-12)
from the free throw line. Senior Erika Laete (Spokane,
Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) led all scorers with 12 points and six
rebounds in the first half, including 6-for-7 from the charity
stripe.
WLC started the second half right where it left off. The
Warriors continued to increase their lead, seeing it climb to 37
points midway through the half en route to an 82-47 victory. The
Warriors out-shot the Sabers in the second half 54.5 percent
(12-for-22) to 32.1 percent (9-for-28). WLC shot 48 percent in the
game, while Marian shot 29 percent. The Warriors finished 26-for-31
(83.9 percent) from the free throw line.
The Warriors (8-1, 4-0 NAC) had two players reach double
figures. Laete led all scorers in the game with 14 points.
Sophomore Krissy Day (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 11
points. Three other Warriors also added eight points. As a team,
WLC had four blocks.
Elizabeth Zutz paced Marian (5-4, 3-4 NAC) scoring 13 points.
The Warriors out-rebounded MU, 40-32.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-1, 4-0) will enjoy time off before it
hosts Mount Mary College in a non-conference game on Thursday,
January 6 at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
