FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The WLC women's basketball
team shot 48.5 percent as all 12 of its players scored en route to
collecting a comfortable 82-48 victory over the Marian University
Sabres on Saturday in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the
Sadoff Gymnasium. With the victory, the Warriors maintain their
one-game lead in the NAC South Division with just three conference
games remaining.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot 57.1 percent in the first half,
jumped out to a 15-3 lead and later extended its lead a first-half
high 27 points, 46-19, at halftime. Senior Whitney Miller
(Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored 10 of her 11
points to pace WLC in the opening half. The Warriors, who held
Marian to just 26.9 shooting in the half, owned a 19-4 margin in
points off turnovers and as well as a 24-6 margin in points in the
paint.
The Warriors used a 26-5 second-half run to build their lead to
a game-high 48 points, 72-24, at the 10:54 mark of the half. With
WLC well in control, the Sabres outscored WLC 24-10 over the final
10:54 as Wisconsin Lutheran won by the 34-point margin. Freshman
guard Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School), who scored a
career-high 17 points in just 15 minutes played, tallied 11 in the
second half. She went 7-for-9 from the floor and had six steals in
the game.
WLC concluded the game shooting 48.5 percent (33-for-68) from the
floor, including 45 percent (9-for-20) from beyond the arc. The
Warriors, who out-rebounded Marian 46-35, shutout the Sabres in
bench scoring, 41-0.
Along with Dillon, three other Warriors reached double figures
on the afternoon. Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) and Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) each
scored 12 points, while Miller finished with 11. All 12 players who
suited up for the forest green and white found the scoring column
in the game. Brittanny Bahr (Caledonia, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
grabbed a career- and team-high eight rebounds.
Brooke Haen scored 16 points to pace three players in double
digits for Marian (5-15, 2-12 NAC), which shot 30.9 percent
(17-for-55) from the floor in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-9, 11-4 NAC) jumps out of conference play
for the final time on Tuesday when it travels across town to face
Mount Mary College at 7 p.m.
