MILWAUKEE - Beloit College's Silas Connelly
scored three times, including twice in the first half, to lead the
visiting Buccaneers past Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1 on
Wednesday in the non-conference season opener for both teams at
Warrior Field.
Connelly put Beloit in front 1-0 early when his shot sailed over
the reach of Warriors senior goalkeeper Chris Lorig (Crete,
Ill./Illinois Lutheran) with only 2:25 off the first-half clock.
WLC trailed by one until the 24:07 juncture when Connelly found the
back of the net unassisted a second time.
The Warriors, who attempted four shots opposed to 12 for Beloit
in the opening half, trailed 2-0 at intermission.
The tide turned in WLC's favor for most of the second half as it
kept the pressure on the Bucs defense. With just under 25 minutes
gone by in the half, senior Cameron Teske (Crete, Ill./Illinois
Lutheran) headed a ball into the back of the net off a pass from
junior James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./Nathan Hale). The Warriors
found themselves trailing by only one score.
Seven minutes later at 76:06, Connelly netted his third and
final tally of the game to give the Bucs a 3-1 advantage, a score
that would stand for the remainder of the contest.
Teske paced the Warriors attack with three shots, including two
on goal. Lorig finished with seven saves while facing 17 shots.
Connelly totaled four shots, while teammate Jackson Wilkins led
Beloit (1-0) with six. Michael Kreiser made three saves in the
net.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1) looks to bounce back when it returns to
the pitch Friday night hosting UW-Platteville at 7:30 p.m. as part
of the Warrior Cup.
