NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team defeated cross-town Northern Athletics
Conference foe MSOE 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon in a league dual match
at the Princeton Club.
Sophomore Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) improved her
conference mark at No. 1 singles to 5-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph
over the Raiders' Carol Cayo. Freshman Emily Pearson (Prairie du
Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory), playing in her first match of the
season at No. 2 singles, defeated Samantha Pekarscik, 6-1, 6-2. At
No. 3 singles, freshman Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford)
was a 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 winner over Courtney Grant. Sophomore Taylor
King (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) picked up the Warriors'
last singles victory on the day at No. 5 when she knocked off
Marguerit Wellstein, 6-2, 6-3.
Wisconsin Lutheran also swept all three doubles flights,
beginning with Hendee and Gauger collecting an 8-1 win over Cayo
and Grant. Pearson and King teamed at No. 2 to overcome Pekarscik
and Burg, 8-5. Lastly, Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) and Tiffani Rohan (Bear Creek, Wis./Clintonville)
defeated Wellstein and Miller, 8-2, at No. 3.
WLC (5-6, 4-2 NAC) returns to the courts on Saturday with a pair
of dual contest. The Warriors take on NAC challenger Alverno
College at 10 a.m. at Nicolet High School, before facing
non-conference opponent Ripon College in a 3:30 p.m. Parents'
Day/Alumni Day match at the Princeton Club.
