RIPON, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran spotted itself
an early 2-0 lead over the unbeaten Ripon College Red Hawks, but
the hosts came back in the second half and both teams played to a
2-2 double overtime draw Wednesday at Prairie Field.
The Warriors, searching for their first win of the 2010 season,
came out strong in the first half against Ripon (4-0-1). WLC opened
the scoring with a Florin Maduta (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) goal
13 minutes into the game, which was assisted by junior Trevor
Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran).
About 12 minutes later at 25:34, Maduta padded Wisconsin
Lutheran's lead with his second goal for a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Warriors outshot Ripon 8-7 in the first half.
Momentum shifted to the way of the Red Hawks in the second half
as they barraged WLC goalkeeper Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois
Lutheran) with 15 shots, compared to two for the Warriors.
Ripon got its first goal in the 52nd minute on a shot by Zach
Hershoff. The hosts tied the game at 66:24 with a goal by Kevin
Cederholm off a corner kick.
The two overtime periods went in favor of the Red Hawks as they
outshot the Warriors 14-0. Lorig made six saves in the extra time
to keep the score knotted 2-2 and deny RC its fifth straight
victory.
Maduta and senior Cameron Teske (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran)
each finished with a team-high four shots for the Warriors. Lorig
finished with 13 saves on 36 shots faced.
Ripon's Cederholm and Hershoff combined to take 14 shots, 10 on
goal, tallying two goals and two assists.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-6-1) opens its Northern Athletics
Conference schedule Saturday by facing cross-town rival MSOE (1-4,
1-0 NAC) at 1 p.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park.
