SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Playing in its fourth
straight five-set match, Wisconsin Lutheran earned its first
Northern Athletics Conference victory by knocking off the Lakeland
College Muskies 3-2 on Thursday at the Moose and Dona Woltzen
Gymnasium.
The Warriors won the first set over the three-time defending NAC
Tournament champions, 25-23, before the host Muskies evened the
match with a 25-14 set two victory. WLC came back to take the third
set, 25-19, but Lakeland knotted the match again with a 25-21 win
in the fourth set. In the fifth decisive set, Wisconsin Lutheran
prevailed 15-11 to pickup its first conference win.
Freshman Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
and sophomore Brittanny Bahr (Caledonia, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
each posted double-doubles to guide the Warriors. Greenfield
tallied 17 digs and 10 kills, while Bahr added 12 assists and 10
digs. Junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
tied a match-high with 15 kills and freshman Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak
Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) was credited with 30 assists. WLC recorded a
season-best .307 attack percentage.
Sam Shepeck paced the Lakeland Muskies (1-8, 1-1 NAC) with 16
digs and 13 kills. Kristine Raeder passed out 31 assists.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-4, 1-1 NAC) will compete in the nine-team
UW-Oshkosh Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Kolf Sports
Center in Oshkosh, Wis. The Warriors will take on St. Norbert
College (3:30 p.m.) and Wartburg College (7:30 p.m.) on Friday,
before facing a pair of yet to be determined opponents on
Saturday.
