NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by cross-town Northern
Athletics Conference opponent Alverno College on Saturday at
Moorland Park Tennis Center. The match was originally scheduled to
be played at Nicolet High School, but was moved to an indoor
location because of the morning rainfall.
Sophomore Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) improved her
conference mark at No. 1 singles to 7-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 conquest
over the Inferno's Amanda Almquist. Freshman Emily Pearson (Prairie
du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory), competing at No. 2 singles,
defeated Abigail Kohal, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Whitney Stibb (Beaver
Dam, Wis./ Lutheran Preparatory) picked up her first win as a
Warrior with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2) victory over AC's Devon Wiseman
at No. 6 to cap-off singles action.
Wisconsin Lutheran also captured a win in doubles play during
today's dual, Hendee and Lindsay Gauger (Rockford,
Mich./Rockford) collected an 8-1 win over Andrea Derrick and Kohal
at No. 1. Pearson and sophomore Taylor King (Wauwatosa,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) fell just short to Alverno's Almquist and
Gabby Allen, 9-7, at No. 2.
WLC (5-7, 4-3 NAC) revisits the courts this afternoon at 3:30
p.m. when it battles non-conference opponent Ripon College for
Parents' and Alumni Day at the Princeton Club in New Berlin,
Wis.
