WLC endures third-straight 5-4 defeat

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team suffered its third consecutive 5-4 defeat Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Marian University Sabres (5-8, 4-6 NAC) in a Northern Athletics Conference dual match at Le Club Sports Club.

The Warriors dropped the first three flights of singles play, before coming back to win the final three flights. Freshman Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) blanked Rachel Brotz at No 4, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5, sophomore Taylor King (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) defeated Sarah Brooker, 6-1, 6-3, and freshman Whitney Stibb (Beaver Dam, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was a 7-6, 9-11, 10-8 winner at No. 6 over Bryanna Paradiso.

WLC claimed its only doubles victory at No. 1 where sophomore Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) partnered with Gauger to down Michelle Zwicky and Reilly Connaher, 8-5. The Warriors lost their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches 8-3 and 8-2, respectively.

Wisconsin Lutheran (5-9, 4-4 NAC) travels south of the border Saturday to play its final two NAC road duals. WLC battles Benedictine University (8-3, 8-0 NAC) in Lisle, Ill., at 9 a.m., before meeting Aurora University (5-4, 5-2 NAC) at 2 p.m.
