MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team was swept 3-0 by the visiting Benedictine
University Eagles on Wednesday in its Northern Athletics Conference
home opener at the Recreation Complex.
Benedictine, tied for the early lead atop the NAC standings,
blanked Wisconsin Lutheran in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-21
and 25-14.
Junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
finished with eight kills to lead the Warriors, who totaled 22
attack errors and hit just .054 for the match. Freshman Mariah
Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) added 10 assists, while
freshman Heather Tompkins (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) collected 19 digs.
Reigning NAC Student-Athlete of the Week Kayla Leyden paced the
Eagles (9-4, 3-0 NAC) with 10 kills, 17 digs and four total blocks.
She committed just one error in 29 attack attempts. Jackie Rust led
BU with a match-high 23 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-6, 1-2 NAC) returns to action Saturday
when it will play three non-conference matches at the MSOE Quad
downtown at the Kern Center. The Warriors will face host MSOE at 10
a.m., followed by Mount Mary College at 12 p.m., and conclude the
afternoon against Marian University at 2 p.m.
